WebCam is a Web Page + Camera.
The Web page hosts images or live video streams served by a
digital Camera attached to a computer. The script on the web page may work in
two ways:
1) Web script capture images from the file on the hard drive of the
PC where the camera is installed. The Camera software writes the image to hard
drive several times a second. Web script loads these images with definite
frequency ranging from several times a second to several times an hour.
2) Web script contain Media Player Object that connect to the computer with
Camera and corresponding Live Stream software that allow http connection to the
computer and transferring data in streaming format (not by separate images).

The WebCam technology has now become quite popular since first
WebCams hit the World Wide Web. Back in the past only a few had the technology
and the resources to keep a camera refreshing an image 24 hours a day and cover
traffic and hardware costs.
Now, for less than $100 and dial-up connection to the Internet, you
can set up your own Web camera on the Internet.
Today there are thousands of different places and people that have a thing in common: a WebCam
in their lives. On the Web you can find cameras pointing to beaches, offices,
parks, or home cams at bedrooms. There are user-controllable and static cams,
colorful and black & white, slow and fast refreshing.
Today you can find personal webcams that charge for the access on a per
minute basis or set up your own
webcam video chatroom and even earn money.
To set a WebCam you need a computer, a WebCamera
(hardware) and a WebCam software along with an Internet connection.
Please read our software and hardware pages before you decide which hardware and
software solution will fit your situation best.
